As you are probably aware, the Fountain Valley School District school boundaries are changing beginning July 1, 2012. The former boundaries had been in place over 20 years and with the pending closure of Moiola School in addition to changing enrollment patterns, it was necessary to redraw school attendance boundaries.

Letters will go out to all students in February letting them know of their assigned school for the 2012-13 school year. Included in this letter is the site visitation schedule and information on our open enrollment dates/criteria.

Please remember that all Inter- and Intra-district forms must be received by April 2nd.

We very much value the parents and community of the Fountain Valley School District and we will be doing everything that we can over the next several months to make sure that these changes are implemented with every consideration for the wonderful students that we serve.

FAQs
My child lives outside the Fountain Valley School District and wants to stay in the district.
Upon completing an INTER-district transfer request from your home district, students already attending our district will be assigned to the same school for the next school year provided we receive your approved renewal request no later than April 2nd. For example, if coming from Santa Ana and attending Cox School, you will be assigned Cox School again if you present a completed, approved inter-district transfer form to Cox by April 2nd.

My child is in a Special Education program. What happens to them?
If your child is in a RSP or Speech/Language program, they will attend that same program at the assigned school based on your residence. If your child is in an SDC program, they will not be changing schools for next year. All SDC students will stay at their current school unless their IEP specifies a different school.

My child lives in the school boundaries of one school but we used the INTRA-district transfer process for them to attend a different school this year. Where will my child attend next year?
Once an INTRA-district transfer is granted, the new school becomes your home school and you will not have to fill out any further forms. Your child stays at the new school until they pass to middle school/high school. For example, if living in the Plavan School area but previously requested an intra-district transfer to Gisler and it was approved, you continue attending at Gisler until your child goes to middle school.

My student attends Moiola School this year. Where does my student go to school next year since Moiola is closing?
All Moiola students will be assigned a new school based on their residence. If you would like to change your assigned school, your request will be given the highest priority. You need to fill out an INTRA-district transfer request at Moiola. If you live outside the Fountain Valley School District, you will need to select a new school on your home district’s INTER-district transfer form. All Intra- and Inter-district forms must be received by April 2nd.

What about busing?
Due to budget cuts, the District will no longer offer parental paid busing in the 2012-13 school year.

My student is in one of the pilot Kindergarten programs this year at Newland or Tamura. What happens to them next year?
Pilot kindergarten programs offered during the 2011-12 school year will remain unchanged. If you have a student in the two-year Preppie K program at either Tamura or Newland, they will remain at that school during the 2012-13 school year. However, if your student attended all-day kindergarten at Tamura or Newland for the 2011-12 school year, this was a one-year program and your student will return to their assigned school based on residency for the for 2012-13 school year. An INTRA-district transfer would need to be completed by April 2nd if you wish your student to remain at Newland or Tamura.
