Transitional Kindergarten and |
The Fountain Valley School District is excited to offer several program options for our 3-5-year-olds. In the 2012-13 school year, the district will offer Transitional Kindergarten at both Newland and Tamura Schools. We will also have All Day Kindergarten at Cox, Newland, Oka, Plavan and Tamura Schools. These programs are in addition to the preschool programs at our State Preschool, Child Development Centers and the Fountain Valley Children's Center. Frequently Asked Questions What is Transitional Kindergarten? Transitional Kindergarten is a legislated program for children who have 5th birthdays that fall between November 2 and December 2, 2012. These students may not attend regular Kindergarten due to a change in the admission age with the passage of SB 1381. Children that meet the above eligibility criteria have first priority for enrollment in the district's Transitional Kindergarten program, however, our Curriculum and Instruction department is maintaining a waiting list for children whose 5th birthdays fall between July 1 and November 1, 2012. Parents should still register their children for regular Kindergarten in case their Transitional Kindergarten request cannot be accommodated. What is All Day Kindergarten All Day Kindergarten allows time for students to focus on the academic skills of early reading, writing and math while providing additional minutes to more fully develop skills in the areas of social studies, science and physical education. All Day Kindergarten will be on the primary grades schedule; or 5 hours and 45 minutes, 5 days a week. How will enrollment work? Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
