The California Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) are volunteer organizations with more than one million members. The PTA and PTO actively participate in statewide education-related commissions, committees and organizations to help develop and enhance school programs.

The District’s parent-teacher groups work to promote the health, education and welfare of children. The council sponsors a variety of student programs, including disaster preparedness. Fundraisers and other events help support these services. In 2003-2004, local PTA/O members volunteered hundreds of thousands of hours of service to schools.

The parent-teacher group at each school communicates regularly with parents through publication of newsletters and other information. Parents are encouraged to join. School sites can provide information about membership.
